Community Group Organizes To Pass Putnam School Bond

The Putnam County Board of Education is conducting a special bond election on Saturday, August 29, 2009 that includes $20,581,240 for the construction of a new Buffalo High School.

 

If the bond passes, the new Buffalo High School will include:

  • Approximately 88,000 square feet
  • Classrooms
  • Computer labs
  • Science labs
  • Library/media center
  • Dining room
  • Kitchen
  • Gymnasium with lockers
  • Auxiliary gymnasium
  • Auditorium
  • Performance stage with dressing rooms
  • Drama classrooms
  • Music/band suite
  • Art classroom
  • Office suite with conference areas
  • Faculty planning areas
  • Restrooms
  • Storage areas
  • The new Buffalo High School will be built to house approximately 400 students in grades 9-12 and will be located on the property owned by the Board of Education in the town of Buffalo. This property is located adjacent to the Buffalo High School baseball and softball fields.

    Confidence Elementary School

    The Putnam County Board of Education is conducting a special bond election on Saturday, August 29, 2009 that includes $8,824,366 for the construction of a new Confidence Elementary School.

     

    If the bond passes, the new Confidence Elementary School will include:

  • Approximately 38,000 square feet
  • Classrooms
  • Computer lab
  • Library/media center
  • Music/art classroom
  • Dining room
  • Kitchen
  • Gymnasium
  • Office suite with conference areas
  • Faculty planning areas
  • Restrooms
  • Storage areas
  • Parking areas
  • Playground area
  • The new Confidence Elementary School will be built to house approximately 250 students in grades pre K-5 and will be located on property acquired by the Board of Education within 5 miles of the existing Confidence Elementary School.

    Poca Middle School and Poca Elementary School

    The Putnam County Board of Education is conducting a special bond election on Saturday, August 29, 2009 that includes $21,584,559 for the construction of a new Poca Middle School and major renovations with a new four room addition to Poca Elementary School.

     

    If the bond passes, the new Poca Middle School will include:

  • New classrooms
  • New computer lab
  • New science labs
  • New library/media center
  • New dining room
  • New kitchen
  • New gymnasium with lockers
  • New restrooms
  • New faculty planning areas
  • The new Poca Middle School will be built to house approximately 350 students in grades 6-8 and will be located on the current Poca Middle School property.

    Winfield Middle School

    The West Virginia School Building Authority has awarded Putnam County Schools a grant for $21,745,736 to build a new Winfield Middle School and a new gymnasium at Winfield Elementary School if the county passes a school bond for the additional county projects on August 29, 2009.

     

    If the bond passes, the new Winfield Middle School will include:

  • New classrooms
  • New computer labs
  • New science labs
  • New library/media center
  • New dining room
  • New kitchen
  • New gymnasium with lockers
  • New restrooms
  • New faculty planning areas
  • Elimination of all portable classrooms
  • The new Winfield Middle School will be built to house approximately 650 students in grades 6-8 and will be located on the current Winfield Middle School property.

    Winfield Elementary School

    The West Virginia School Building Authority has awarded Putnam County Schools a grant for $788,167 to build a new gymnasium at Winfield Elementary School if the county passes a school bond for the additional county projects on August 29, 2009.

    If the Putnam County School Bond passes on August 29, 2009, Hurricane High School will receive a new auxiliary gymnasium.
